Adjunctive Procedures

Adjunctive Procedures

Adjunctive Procedures or modalities are used to reduce pain, swelling and help improve range of motion.

Some of the modalities that we use are:
Ultrasound - this is a passive modality which a sound wave penetrates the skin surface causing the soft tissues to vibrate and this creates a heating effect which in turn cause the blood vessels to dilate. The additional blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients to the targeted tissues.

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) - is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electrical impulses. The impulses are delivered through electrodes placed on the skin in the area of treatment. EMS is used to relax muscle spasms and strenghten muscles. It also increases local blood circulation and helps improve range of motion.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) - sends a painless electrical current to specific nerves. TENS works to decrease pain perception and is used to control acute and chronic pain. TENS therapy stimulates the body's production of endorphins which is your body's natural pain reliever.
